Is it a dream of yours to have your text published? Do you have a natural flair for writing? Or would you like to prove yourself as a columnist? If you have answered “yes” to any of these questions, that means you must join us! Second Thoughts(ISSN 2719-6739) is an award-winning magazine - we received honourable mentions in the categories The Debut of the Year 2020 and StRuNa-Media 2021 in the nationwide StRuNa competition, and in 2024 we won the main prize – The Student Club of the Year! We’re the perfect space for everyone with a creative and critical mind who wants to have their say about anything that matters.
Joining us does not only mean having fun with amazing people but also a chance to gain valuable skills and experience that may help you in the predatory reality of the job market. At Second Thoughts, you’ll receive training in editing and proofreading, which is bound to come in handy during the nth recheck of your thesis and will look amazing on your CV. We also participate in external workshops and conferences, for example in the National Student Media Conference or in the Mixer Festival.
We also organise calls for papers for each issue. And to do that you don’t have to be a part of the editorial team – we’re open to every student! The main topic is different each time, so it’s best to follow us on social media or to regularly check the Institute of English Studies website to get the freshest info on the call for papers. We’re a place for expressing your thoughts and opinions on films, theatre plays, politics, social and cultural phenomena, changing trends in the coffee/music/fashion industry, or an explanation of complex biological/ecological/scientific problems.
Do you know everything there is to know about recent discoveries in medicine? Perfect, tell us about new developments in treating certain diseases. Do you fancy music? Amazing, write about the Chopin festival or a new piece by Mark Ronson and explain why it is as smashing as ever. Or maybe you’re keen on AI and some quirky system has just been designed recently? Write all about it! We can’t wait to read your texts. You’ll only need a computer and the skill to write in English!
If you are interested in writing, editing and proofreading, preparing illustrations, or putting the issue together - do contact us!
