Department of the English Language
Our department focuses on theoretical and descriptive linguistics. We study all aspects of human language and its diversity. Our research lies at the intersections of language, cognition, culture and society. We study English and other languages to better understand mechanisms underlying natural language systems and human communication. Using cutting-edge methods, we explore linguistic structures, how languages are acquired and learned, and how they change. An important aspect of our research is its applicability and relevance in various domains of life, for example education, career opportunities, technology, social and cultural activism, self-development. The wide range of courses offered by our department inspires students to pursue topics in linguistics of their own choice.
