11–12 December 2025, Warsaw

Building on the tradition of the “Interpreting for Relevance” conference series organized by the University of Warsaw from 2002 to 2014, this new edition aims to provide a platform for presenting and discussing current research applying Relevance Theory to a wide range of communicative phenomena, in both face-to-face and online contexts.

The previous conference series was entitled “Interpreting for Relevance:  Discourse and Translation,” which we feel aptly captured the broad realm of Relevance-Theoretic research. For this new event, however, we have adopted the new title “Interpreting for Relevance: Edition 2.0” in recognition of new developments in the field, especially over the past decade – perhaps most notably, the growing importance of digital discourses and the “affective turn” in cognitive science and communication studies. In line with this, we are honored to announce that this year’s plenary speakers will be Prof. Louis de Saussure (Université de Neuchâtel) and Prof. Francisco Yus (Universidad de Alicante).

Conference Topics

We welcome both theoretical and empirical papers – presenting completed studies or work in progress – revolving around the Relevance-Theoretic approach to cognition and communication. Interdisciplinary submissions combining Relevance Theory with other theoretical frameworks are also encouraged.
