The celebrations will be accompanied by a series of lectures and events at the Institute of English Studies of the University of Warsaw.

The celebration itself is scheduled for 20-21 April, 2023

Day 1: 20.04.2023
Building of the Faculty of Modern Languages ul. Dobra 55. Room 0.410

14:00–16:00–Opening of the jubilee celebrations.

The celebrations will be opened by the Rector of UW prof. dr hab. Alojzy Nowak, Dean of the Faculty of Modern Languages, dr hab. Robert Małecki, prof. student and dr hab. Agnieszka Piskorska, Director of the Institute of English Studies

  • screening of the documentary "From Krakowskie Przedmieście 9 to Dobra 55" (10 minutes)
  • Rector's Awards for outstanding services to the Institute of English Studies
  • lecture by dr hab. Paweł Poszytek, director of the Foundation for the Development of the Education System and graduate of IES, entitled "Humanities in Our World" (30 minutes)

16:00–16:30 – coffee break

16:30–17:30 – Plenary lecture: prof. Lennard J. Davis (University of Chicago), "What's At Stake in the Contemporary Call for Representation?: The Justification of Diversity and the Problematics of Adulating Signs"

17:30–18:30 – Concert Music of the English Baroque, performed by Ilona Szczepańska mezzo-soprano and a quartet of historical instruments

18:30–20:00 – Banquet: Australian Garden, Dobra 55 street

Scientific Symposium: "English Studies in the 21st Century"

09:30–10:30 – Plenary lecture: prof. Angie Mc Robbie (Goldsmiths University of London), Stuart Hall, Feminist Cultural Studies and Neoliberal Times

10:30–11:00 – coffee break

11:00–12:30 – discussion panel (British Studies)

12:30–13:30 – lunch; Australian garden

13:30–14:30 – Plenary lecture: dr. Marzena Żygis (Leibniz-Centre for General Linguistics in Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), New Experimental Paths of Testing Linguistic Hypotheses

14:30–16:00–discussion panel (American Studies)

16:00–16:30 – coffee break

16:30–18:00 – panel discussion (Linguistics)
