Open lecture - Dr Nathan Thomas UCL Getting the most from Students: Practical Ideas for supporting Strategic Language Learning and Use

Discussions about what makes language learning effective and efficient have long focused on what both teachers and students do. Since the 1970s, the field of language learning strategies has zoomed in on such perennial issues. The field has emphasized that students must be proactive in their language learning pursuits, and teachers must support students in doing so.

In this talk, I will provide an overview of some of the research in this area. I will draw attention to seminal work and recent advances in supporting strategic language learning and use. The talk will be interactive. Attendees will leave with practical ideas on how to “get the most” from their students through structured pedagogical support.

The lecture will be held on 29.05 at 13:15-14:45 in room 2.014.
