Prof. Harris was devoted to the institute and supported student activity. She initiated the adoption of a course system at the Institute of English Studies that allowed students to pursue their academic interests to a degree hitherto unprecedented in Poland. She was also one of the initiators of the creation of the British Studies Centre and the From Queen Anne to Queen Victoria conferences.

She was the supervisor of hundreds of MA theses, with topics ranging from 18th century philosophical treatises, through women's writing, youth culture, to contemporary comedy or criminal TV series. For many she was a mentor, who managed to create an atmosphere that facilitated academic development, bringing up several generations of students and faculty.
