Why British Studiesin the 21st Century ?

In the 21st century, Britain continues to wield an ideological and cultural influence that belies its diminutive geographical size, and is an imperative site of study for any student interested in researching and working in the area of literature/ culture or political studies. This course will offer students the opportunity to trace, discuss and debate:

  • ideological narratives and counter narratives which destabilise traditions and established frameworks of knowledge,
  • contemporary case studies which create space for marginalised identities and voices,
  • debate the concept of power and explore acts of resistance
  • discuss the latest research developments and case studies in the field of British Cultural Studies,
  • develop a range of transferable skills: research, academic writing, presentation skills, teamwork, and independence.
